Elon Musk’s X Taken Down By Dark Storm Hackers

On Monday, March 10, 2025, X (formerly Twitter) suffered major global outages as hacker group “Dark Storm” claimed responsibility for a massive cyberattack.

The disruptions began around 5:30 a.m. Eastern Time (ET), with users reporting difficulties accessing the platform on both mobile and desktop devices. Despite initial recovery efforts, additional outages occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. ET, leading to widespread frustration among users.

Elon Musk, the owner of X, addressed the situation in a post at 1:25 p.m. ET, stating, “There was (still is) a massive cyberattack against 𝕏. We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources. Either a large, coordinated group and/or a country is involved. Tracing …”

However, as of now, X (formerly Twitter) is still facing issues despite partial restoration, as Elon Musk claims a “massive cyberattack” is ongoing.

The hacker group “Dark Storm Team” has claimed responsibility for the attack in a public Telegram post, though its exact content remains unclear. Known for sophisticated cyber warfare, the group has successfully breached high-security systems.

A security report states that Dark Storm Team primarily targets key business sectors in Israel and NATO member countries. Last month, they vowed to launch cyberattacks on the government websites of NATO nations, Israel, and those supporting Israel.

During the outages, users encountered error messages from Cloudflare, a content delivery network and cybersecurity services provider, indicating issues with the web server.

According to Downdetector, a website monitoring service, outage reports peaked at over 40,000 incidents, with the most severe impacts observed on the East and West coasts of the United States. The majority of issues (56%) were related to the X app, while 33% were reported for the website.

This incident is one of several outages X has faced since Musk acquired the platform in October 2022. The competitive landscape of social media has seen other organizations create new apps as the environment becomes increasingly divided and polarized.

As of now, X has not provided additional details regarding the source of the cyberattack or the measures being taken to prevent future incidents. Users are advised to remain cautious and stay updated through official channels for further information.
