OpenAI has rolled out a major update to its AI image-generation tool, allowing all ChatGPT users to access it for free. Previously limited to paid users, this feature is now open to everyone, letting anyone generate impressive images with a simple text prompt—no payment required.
In a post on X, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman confirmed the news: “ChatGPT image gen now rolled out to all free users!” He also assured users that OpenAI was committed to accessibility, adding, “We want everyone to use it!”
How to Use ChatGPT’s AI Image Generator
The feature, integrated into ChatGPT through the GPT-4o model, lets users create detailed and realistic images directly in the chat interface. Here’s how you can use it:
To generate an image with ChatGPT, log in on your device and start a new chat. Type out what you want the image to look like—things like style, colors, or size can help make it more accurate. Once it’s created, you can download it. If it’s not quite right, just tweak your description and try again.
You can also edit existing images. Click the “+” sign in the chat, upload your image, and explain what changes you want.
The tool offers a wide range of artistic styles, from Studio Ghibli and South Park to Minecraft, Lego, watercolor, and even rubber hose animation. Whether you’re working on infographics, product mockups, logos, posters, or any other creative project, this update makes it easier than ever to bring your ideas to life—all for free.
