Controversial Solana-based memecoin platform Pump.fun restored its live-streaming service for a limited percentage of users after keeping it offline for five months. The platform, infamous for being a launchpad for scam memecoins, discontinued its live-streaming feature last November after numerous concerning instances involving dangerous broadcasts of violent and self-harm threats.
The decision to reinstate live streaming for 5% percent users of Pump.fun was announced by Alon Cohen, the platform’s co-founder, on April 4 via a post on X.
The platform’s live-streaming option has been returned through a specific launch procedure that selected 5% of users to evaluate its functionality. New industry-standard moderation systems have been deployed together with visible guidelines that enable users to understand platform requirements. The new moderation policy develops a creative social environment but protects users from illegal or dangerous content.
Users will find all action that increases violence or put animals at risk, shows pornography, or threatens young people explicitly banned by the new system.
Some NSFW content may persist on the platform because the right to judge appropriateness remains with the platform through individual case evaluations.
User base growth exceeded moderator capacity that led to suspending live-streaming functionality on the platform. Users resorted to dangerous promotion strategies that involved making violence or self-harm threats to push their memecoins up in value. Live streaming operations at the platform went on indefinite hold while the platform worked on redeveloping its content moderation system.
