XRPL validator Vet has hinted at further upgrades that will be coming with the latest version of the XRP Ledger, version 2.5.0, set to roll out this month. In a comment shared on X, Vet said, it’s time to move past the old taglines of “3–5 second blocks, low fees, and 1500 TPS,” which were impressive back in 2013, but no longer reflect what the XRPL is becoming today.
According to him, the space should be expecting these three new features: native smart transactors, a unique consensus model without middlemen, and cheaper nodes that are easy to use.

The smart transactors feature could bring some advanced transaction features to XRPL which would be useful for developers to build custom logic directly into transactions without needing extra tools or smart contracts. This, in fact, can help power things like automated payments, digital asset actions, and other blockchain-based tools in a much easier way.
Meanwhile, Vet also mentioned in another tweet yesterday that the upgrade would include support for token-enabled escrows under XLS-85d, which would allow users to lock other tokens aside from XRP. Tokens like stablecoins (e.g., RLUSD), real-world asset tokens, and memecoins will be able to lock this way.
There’s also another upcoming feature called XLS-56d batch transactions. It will offer users the ability to combine up to eight transactions into one.
