Cathie Wood’s ARK Buys Over $40M in Block and Circle as USDC’s Chelsea Kit Debuts

The buys hit ARKF, ARKK and ARKW on Aug. 31’s split tape, with Block off 1.85% to $82.02 and Circle up 9.65% to $95.55 after its USDC Chelsea kit debuted.

Cathie Wood’s ARK Investment Management added two crypto-adjacent fintech names on Monday, August 31, scooping 456,059 shares of Jack Dorsey’s Block Inc. worth about $37.4 million and 35,192 shares of stablecoin issuer Circle Internet Group worth roughly $3.36 million, a combined value of $40.76 million.

The buys were routed across the firm’s three actively managed equity ETFs. The purchases came alongside Block shares slipping 1.85% while Circle’s shares surged 9.65% at close: 4:00:02 PM EDT as per YahooFinance data on the first full trading session after its USDC-branded Chelsea FC kit debuted in the Premier League.

AI Summary

On August 31, ARK bought 456,059 Block shares across three ETFs, continuing its early‑August rebuilding effort.
The same day, ARK added 35,192 Circle shares after the USDC‑Chelsea shirt debut boosted the stock 9.65%.
Earlier in July, ARK deployed $45 million in Circle, and in early August purchased 267,676 Block shares following earnings dip.

The trades appear on ARK’s daily trade notification, the transparency file the firm publishes for every buy and sell in its six actively managed funds.

Block Buy Split Across ARKF, ARKK and ARKW

The Block purchase was spread as 176,262 shares through the ARK Fintech Innovation ETF (ARKF), 191,732 shares through the flagship ARK Innovation ETF (ARKK), and 88,065 shares through the ARK Next Generation Internet ETF (ARKW). At 456,059 shares in aggregate, it is one of ARK’s largest single-session Block additions since the firm began rebuilding the position in early August, when it purchased 267,676 shares worth about $22.5 million on the day of Block’s post-earnings drawdown, as reported previously by The Crypto Times.

Block, the payments and financial technology group co-founded and led by former Twitter chief Jack Dorsey, has become an increasingly important vehicle for ARK’s crypto thesis because of its rising Bitcoin treasury and its Cash App Bitcoin ecosystem. In its Q2 2026 earnings released on August 7, the company raised full-year gross profit guidance to $12.51 billion, or 21% year-on-year growth, and reported adjusted diluted earnings of $1.02 per share on revenue of $6.62 billion, both ahead of consensus.

The Bitcoin footprint continues to grow alongside the operating business. Block’s most recent Form 10-Q filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) shows the company held 9,117 BTC on its balance sheet as of June 30, 2026, worth roughly $714 million at the time of disclosure, up from 8,883 BTC at the end of 2025.

The Bitcoin Ecosystem segment of Cash App, which includes retail Bitcoin trading, saw gross profit fall 31% year-on-year to $72 million, a decline management attributed to a deliberate cut in transaction fees to grow volume rather than margin.

Circle Buy Lands on Chelsea Debut Day

The Circle position is smaller in dollar terms, but arrived on a day the stock did most of the heavy lifting itself. CRCL’s 9.65% climb was its strongest single-session gain in weeks and coincided with the first full trading day after USDC branding officially appeared on Chelsea Football Club’s men’s shirt at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, in the club’s first Premier League home fixture of the 2026/27 campaign.

The sponsorship, announced on August 28, makes Circle the club’s Principal Partner and Official Front-of-Shirt Partner across the men’s, women’s, and academy teams, per Chelsea FC’s official partnership release. It is the first time a stablecoin issuer has taken the primary shirt slot for a Premier League club, and follows earlier sleeve deals by crypto exchanges with other English clubs. Financial terms were not disclosed, though UK press reports have pegged the annual value at close to £50 million.

USDC, short for USD Coin, is a US dollar-pegged stablecoin fully backed by cash and short-duration US Treasury bills and issued by Circle. It is the second-largest stablecoin by circulating supply, sitting near $73.9 billion per Circle’s transparency data.

ARK’s August 31 Circle buy, routed through ARKF, extends the firm’s most persistent dip-buying campaign of the year. In July alone, ARK deployed close to $45 million into CRCL across multiple sessions, including a single-day purchase of 220,012 shares on July 14 worth about $13.9 million, as detailed earlier by The Crypto Times.

Palantir Trim Anchors a Wider Rotation

Alongside the crypto-linked buys, ARK continued to lighten its Palantir Technologies (PLTR) position, selling 139,456 shares across ARKK, ARKF, and ARKW at an implied price around $186 per share, or roughly $26 million in aggregate.

Other same-session sales included Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Roblox (RBLX), Shopify (SHOP), and cancer-diagnostics firm Tempus AI (TEM). On the buy side, ARK added 200,303 shares of space launch provider Rocket Lab (RKLB) to ARKK, and a series of smaller genomics purchases in the ARK Genomic Revolution ETF (ARKG), including Guardant Health, Intellia Therapeutics, Scribe Therapeutics, and Veracyte.

The pattern echoes ARK’s August 17 file, when the firm also bought Block, Nvidia, and tokenization platform Securitize while trimming Palantir and Shopify.

Rebalancing, Not a Direction Call

ARK’s methodology caps any single equity at 10% of a fund. When a high-conviction holding falls, its weight drifts below target, and the model mechanically triggers additions on down days; when a name rips, ARK often trims to keep the weight in line.

The broader backdrop remains uneven for crypto equities. Bitcoin closed August around $78,000 after a hawkish Jackson Hole message from Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh on August 28 reset rate-cut expectations, per Fortune. Yet company-specific catalysts, notably Circle’s Chelsea deal and Block’s raised guidance, have kept both names in ARK’s daily file.

For crypto investors, the more instructive signal is not the dollar size of any single day’s trade, which remains modest by Wall Street standards, but the persistence of the pattern. ARK has now used Block and Circle as its two principal listed proxies for on-chain payments and regulated stablecoins for most of 2026, and Monday’s tape suggests that positioning has not changed.
