Georgia resident, Marlita A. Andrews was arrested for allegedly being involved in a cryptocurrency theft that targeted residents of Sarasota County.
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office detectives collaborated with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia, and together they arrested Andrews in Macon. She is now facing charges related to the theft.
Police reports indicate that the investigation focused on a warrant scam that defrauded citizens of Sarasota. Authorities could trace the stolen funds to the suspect by analyzing money transfers. This case marks the first time the agency has dealt with a crime involving cryptocurrencies.
