The Graph Network has set a new milestone, serving a record 1.95 billion queries in July 2024, an impressive 11x growth compared to the same month last year. This incredible surge comes on the heels of The Graph’s successful transition to a decentralized model, marking a pivotal moment in the world of Web3 and decentralized data access.
Edge & Node, the team behind The Graph, announced that the number of subgraphs on the decentralized network has also soared to over 9,000, a 361% increase since the first quarter of 2024.
This growth was part of the “Sunrise of Decentralized Data” initiative, a project led by Edge & Node’s CEO, Tegan Kline, after her appointment in 2023. The initiative pushed The Graph from a centralized hosted service to a fully decentralized model, which allows developers and dApps to manage their data autonomously.
The transition officially began on June 12, 2024, when The Graph deprecated its free hosted service, removing the last piece of centralized infrastructure. Developers can now access data that is secure, reliable, and censorship-resistant directly from The Graph’s decentralized network.
Tegan Kline, CEO of Edge & Node, expressed her excitement: “One of the most rewarding journeys in the past year has been empowering the Edge & Node team to fully upgrade The Graph’s hosted service to the decentralized network. It’s been incredible to watch each individual teammate rise to the occasion, setting in motion the worldwide data autonomy movement.”
In a time where crypto projects face increasing scrutiny, The Graph’s decision to fully decentralize underscores the importance of staying true to the ethos of Web3. By transitioning to a decentralized system, The Graph has demonstrated that data autonomy and decentralization are not just goals—they are achievable realities.
The Graph’s decentralized network now supports over 60 blockchains, offering developers lower costs and faster syncing times. As the network grows, The Graph plans to enhance subgraphs for even better-querying experiences and explore new data sources, setting the stage for future expansion.
Edge & Node also sees The Graph playing a larger role in creating a “global brain” of decentralized data, forming the foundation of a Knowledge Graph that both humans and AI can rely on for verifiable information.
